چکیده
Aim: This study aims to investigate the mid-term clinical outcomes of surgically treated Pilon Fractures (PF).
Material and Methods: Twenty patients, for PF between 2002 2012 were included in study. Patients evaluated functionally based on Weber American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS) protocols.
Results: Mean follow-up period was 31.55 (20–48) months. Nine (45%) 20 patients had open fractures. According Rüedi–Allgöwer Classification: type 1 nine, 2 nine 3 fractures observed two patients. A comparison duration union closed revealed that took a significantly longer time (p= 0.004). Moreover, soft tissue complications developed proportionally lesser extent who applied staged fixation compared with those direct fixation, although difference not statistically significant 0.999). Conclusion: The surgical treatment phase should comply maximum care provided attention paid tissue. It be remembered fate/outcome certain is determined at incident negative are inevitable some despite best efforts.

متن کاملType C tibial pilon fractures
Results There were 102 type C pilon fractures in 99 patients, whose mean age was 42 years (16 to 86) and 77 were male. Primary open reduction internal fixation (ORIF) was performed in 73 patients (71.6%), whilst 20 (19.6%) underwent primary external fixation with delayed ORIF. There were 18 wound infections (17.6%). A total of nine (8.8%) were deep and nine were superficial. Infection was assoc...
متن کاملTreatment of Tibial Pilon Fractures
The authors reviewed the clinical results and problems of 11 tibial pilon fractures in 11 patients (average age 55 years). The post-operative follow-up period averaged 18 months (range 3 38 months). The cause of injury in 7 of the cases was motor vehicle accidents. All fractures were closed. According to the AO classification, five fractures were Type B1, 1 was Type B2, 2 were Type C2, and 3 we...
متن کاملDistal tibial fractures and pilon fractures.
Fractures of the distal tibia are often very severe injuries that generally occur in the context of high-energy trauma and present with significant concomitant soft tissue involvement. Open fractures and extensive destruction of the articular surfaces are important challenges to the treating surgeon. In consequence the outcome for distal meta- and epiphyseal tibial fractures depends largely on ...
متن کاملManagement of high-energy tibial pilon fractures
Tibial pilon fractures result from high-energy trauma unlike usual ankle fractures. Their management provides numerous challenges to the orthopaedic surgeon including obtaining anatomic reduction of articular surface and the management of associated soft tissue injuries. This article aims to review major advances and principles that guide our practice today. We also discuss a treatment algorith...
